People who provide counseling services, people who have difficulty relaxing or those who want more peaceful sleep often use "white noise" machines to muffle outside sounds or to insure enhanced privacy in a counseling area. We now have research into the use of "pink noise" to help people fall asleep, stay asleep and to improve memory.

Pink noise sounds something like white noise but it has a lower sound frequency and it, therefore, reduces the "sizzle sound" produced by white noise. It can be more calming and restful. Some people have compared it to the sound of peaceful rain., It has also been noted that sleeping while exposed to pink noise has made it easier for people to take in, and recall, information after awakening because pink noise can encourage deeper sleep. Sleeping in complete silence can, in fact, make resting peacefully more difficult because the brain is more alert to even slight sounds. ( Michael Breus Ph.d) Pink noise can be worth a try if you have problems falling asleep or staying asleep. It is available on apps like Sleepo and Pink Noise on Android devices or NoiseZ and White Noise Lite for Apple devices.
