TECHNOFERENCE

IN HOMES FILLED WITH COMPUTERS, LAPTOPS, AND CELL PHONES, IT APPEARS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE SPENDING SIGNIFICANTLY LESS TIME WITH EACH OTHER.  THINGS LIKE FACEBOOK AND TWITTER ARE BEGINNING TO GIVE PEOPLE FALSE ASSURANCES OF FRIENDSHIPS INSTEAD OF TRUE HUMAN CONNECTIONS.  I HAVE SPOKEN WITH MANY CLIENTS WHO BRAG THAT THEY HAVE ACTIVE SOCIAL LIVES AS THEY ANNOUNCE THEIR "HUNDREDS OF FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK."  AS PEOPLE CLING TO COMPUTERS FOR FEELINGS OF CLOSENESS THEY ARE LOSING THE POSSIBILITY OF REAL IN-PERSON FRIENDS.  ONLINE "FRIENDS" DON'T GIGGLE WHEN YOU ARE FUNNY AND THEY DON'T HAND YOU TISSUES TO WIPE TEARS WHEN YOU ARE SAD.  TECHNOLOGY CAN INTERFERE WITH YOUR TRUE RELATIONSHIPS AS IT MAKES "FAR" MASQUERADE AS "CLOSE."
MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED TO ME ABOUT LONELINESS WHEN THEY ARE TOLD "I'LL BE RIGHT WITH YOU AS SOON AS I ANSWER SOME EMAILS."
SO MANY PEOPLE ARE GETTING SUCKED INTO A SCREEN OF SOME KIND OR ARE SPENDING MORE TIME WITH EMAIL THAN ACTUALLY BEING WITH PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT THEM.  CERTAINLY, SOME OF THIS IS RELATED TO THE PANDEMIC BUT I BELIEVE THAT MUCH IS RELATED TO A ROBOTIC LOSS OF HUMANNESS AS APPS ARE BECOMING MORE ADDICTIVE.
POLYAMORY HAS INVOLVED 3 OR MORE PEOPLE IN A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP.  I SUGGEST THAT IT CAN NOW INVOLVE A THIRD ENTITY LIKE AN OVERUSED COMPUTER OR CELL PHONE.
FOLLOWING ARE 5 SUGGESTIONS TO HELP YOU GET BACK TO BEING MORE HUMAN AND LESS ROBOTIC:
1: PRACTICE SELF-CONTROL AS YOU CLEAR OUT OF THE HABIT OF CONSTANTLY CHECKING IN ON YOUR PHONE OR COMPUTER.
2: YOU CAN GET A "DASHBOARD" THAT CAN TELL YOU HOW LONG YOU HAVE SPENT ON YOUR SCREENS,
3: LIMIT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE YOU FOLLOW ONLINE.
4: SHARE MORE THINGS IN PERSON.  REALLY - THEY CAN WAIT,
5: KNOW THAT YOUR WORTH AS A HUMAN IS NOT MEASURED BY "LIKES" OR "FOLLOWERS."
