THE BEATLES'

When you are feeling down and need more joy in your life, music often helps and it is hard to find something that does it better than the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun." As a matter of fact, this song is often played in hospitals to help bring joy to the joyless. When you feel like crap, it may seem inappropriate to focus on pursuing happiness. This is quite a mistaken thought process. Looking for happiness when your world is dark can help give you the strength to make it through. Never underestimate the Beatles' ability to sustain you and help you find more gratitude, hope, help and love. It can help you to relieve your mental anguish. Instead of feeling post traumatic stress, you may be able to experience "post traumatic growth." (American Psychological Association.) People who are the quickest to bounce back when the going gets tough are those who realize that happiness is choice and not an unreachable goal. "Here comes the sun and I say it's alright."
Along with the "Here Comes the Sun" attitude, it is important to eat well, sleep sufficiently and to cease comparing yourself to others. Do connect with other human beings, experience physical activity, both active and more relaxing like yoga and meditation. You growing happiness will not come all at once, but in small attainable steps that, over time, will improve you outlook on life. If what you are doing isn't working, go for it! Be happy - not because everything is good but because you are willing to see the good in everything.
"Happiness is not ready made. It comes from your own actions." the Dalai Lama
