PTSD FROM A PANDEMIC? YOU BET!

Shortly after I posted a blog about too much talk regarding the pandemic issues, I received a letter from MDVIP, my medical care group, regarding the medical conditions which can develop from the trauma of the Coronavirus. It suggests that human service workers are at high risk for PTSD related to the pandemic. This blog, then, is not totally an original, but, rather, a summary of the MDVIP creation. It is divided into 3 basic groups: symptoms, who is at risk and coping skills.

6 SYMPTOMS:
1. Intrusive memories, flashbacks, and nightmares.
2. Avoiding thinking or talking about the trauma.
3. Negative thinking or changes in mood.
4. Trouble sleeping or concentrating.
5. Always being on guard.
6. Irritability.

4 WHO IS AT RISK?
1. Those with a personal or family history of anxiety.
2. Difficult ]general temperament.
3. The way your brain regulates stress.
4. Lack of a good support system.

5 COPING SKILLS
1. Medical treatment if necessary.
2. Avoiding stress when possible.
3. Limit media exposure.
4. Practice deep breathing.
5. Use meditation and exercise.
6. Make sleep a priority.

When your body and mind get the rest they need, you may find that you are better able to face the daily challenges of life during the corona-virus epidemic.

I feel somewhat distressed and awkward about lifting the verbatim research of other researchers or physicians, but, when it cannot be stated more accurately and efficiently, I do so shamelessly for my colleagues, clients, and friends.
