BE MORE OUTGOING DURING YOUR WORK DAY

If you are feeling burned out and bored during your work day, you are likely having problems keeping your energy level up. It doesn't make sense to simply blame this on sleep problems or a poor breakfast. It could be more helpful to check out your attitude about the work that you do. Ten ways to experience more enthusiasm while you are working:


1. Look for great good in what you do. I have talked with 3 therapists about this kind of work-related stress. When I asked the first one what kind of work he did, he stated that "I talk to people about their problems," The second one said that he "listens to people's troubles." The third one said that he helps others to "find new and exciting ways to enjoy their lives fully." That third therapist was able to see his work in more broad terms. He didn't just see himself as an adviser. He recognized that he was changing the quality of the lives of his clients. He recognized the entire meaning of the way he spent his time. This richer way of connecting with your purpose can be applicable to any job. It doesn't have to be professional.

2. Keep yourself challenged by volunteering for new projects and taking classes to broaden your horizons. Remember that the way you learn can help you to get promoted to more important positions.

3. Do not try to do too many things at the same time. If you are trying to complete one task while letting your mind wander to other things, you will reduce your energy easily.

4. Recognize that during certain times of the day, you are likely to have more energy and motivation than others. Staying aware of your own energy rhythm will help you to work on high energy issues when your mental activity is more animated.

5. Take meditation breaks during your work day. This is something you can do right at your desk to clear your mind for the next task at hand.

6. Balance your duties so that completing your job allows you to focus on things that excite and energize you. Some parts of what you do will be negative to you while others will feel more positive. Work to mix the two so that your entire day doesn't feel like a drag.

7. Seek out co-workers who share your enthusiasm for focusing on new ideas. Try to avoid colleagues who are consistently negative and who complain frequently.

8. Show respect for those people with whom you work. All of you will feel more energized when you feel appreciated.

9. Don't expect recognition and gratitude. Don't focus on the "What's in it for me?" attitude. Just do the right thing because it is honorable.

10. Have fun while at work. Celebrate birthdays and share pot luck meals. These kinds of social activities allow you to know your teammates in ways that do not always involve work tasks,
